Have you ever wondered if there were simulators that helped you train to deliver babies? Maybe not, but it turns out there are ones. It is called the iStan simulator and it is the most advanced because there is an actual pulse, heart beat, and skin that is close to humans. It can even deliver substances like tears and blood automatically.

The simulator can also help nursing students deal with any severe problems such as asthma attacks and gunshots. This is a great simulator because it lets new students get skilled before they enter the real situation. This can save countless lives, so we hope to see these simulators in more nursing schools around the nation.

New nursing schools are popping up all over the place. This time there's a new one at the University of South Alabama. The new college of nursing has an advanced simulator where President Gordon Moulton delivered two virtual babies.

The virtual simulator makes the School of Nursing the most advanced nursing facilities in Alabama. Moulton described the technology at the school will produce better students who will be ready to take on the ever increasing health care problem. They've also increased the amount of capacity to an addition 57 students which should help with the nursing shortage.

Many people don't realize that getting into a nursing professional will make you valuable around the world. Washington State University's College of Nursing is showing students exactly that as they are offering nursing and pharmacy students the opportunity to travel to other countries to gain healthcare experience.

One group of students are in Peru where they help the locals with any sort of healthcare issues. This is a hugely rewarding experience as they have to deal with poverty, cultural differences, and much more. Peru faces problems like malnutrition, tooth decay, parasites, and other things you wouldn't find commonly in the US. This is great experience for nursing students and we hope to see more of this.

The Nursing shortage is creating a lot of jobs that need to be filled. This is both making the field interesting to young people as well as adults. Moms seem to find a keen interest in nursing and are even switching entire careers.

Some of the reasons Moms felt like it was a good choice was to set a good example for their children. Another was to bring in extra income to pay for every increasing expenses. They also mentioned that just helping people get better is a rewarding experience in itself.

Nurses are being overworked as there are enough nurses out there to do the work. One big reason is that educational programs can't accept all the people who apply due to already running above capacity. However, there is good news as states like California have enacted special laws to help the situation out.

This is important because there is a high threat of patients dying in hospitals due to not enough staff to take care of them. California has gone so far as to create a law that requires one nurse for every five patients on medical and surgical floors which are the most critical. It will be interesting to see how these laws take in effect.

Great news for the health care community in California as a state initiative has been successful in getting more students licensed as registered nurses. The figure now is up to 10,400 nurses graduating as registered nurses. This is an almost 70 percent increase from last year.

The state initiative is called California Nurse Education Initiative and it led to the making of 23 nursing programs. This initiative focuses around joining the industry and community colleges. 90 million dollars was given in a public and private partnership. This is great news for California and they are really paving the way for other states to do the same.

It turns out that the average at RN programs is about 32 years old. This is quite surprising for many people who think that college and universities are just for young people out of high school. However, RN programs stand out from other degrees in that it has a large number of students that considered Nursing later in their life.

RN programs in the US has always offered a very diverse group of student body. This is because nursing is the perfect career track to get into right now. This is because there is a massive shortage of nurses which is causing major healthcare problems right now. This means that anyone who can pass the proper exams can get a get paying job immediately.

RN programs themselves are even overcrowded which is leading many students to consider online degree which they are finding are much better than traditional degrees in Nursing. Online degrees have mainly catered to people who still would like to work and support themselves and their family while they study. Online RN programs allow this because it is on your time.

All these reasons contribute to why the average age of nursing students are above 31 years of age. If you're already working, and are thinking about switching to a career with more promise, you have to at least request more information to see if Nursing fits you.

A new partnership was formed in Texas that will help get more students educated with a nursing degree. Rusk State Hospital has announced a satellite nursing program that will be finished in Jan 2009. The program is a partnership between Stephen F Austin State University and Rusk State Hospital, and they will receive an initial budget of 100,000 to get started.

The Nursing school will place attention on Bachelor of Science  in Nursing Degrees and also registered nurse certifications. This is great news for the nursing field. We are seeing more and more partnerships with hospitals to get more qualified students into the nursing field.

It's very important to pick a nursing school that doesn't over charge you and then deliver poor education. It turns out at Herzing College in Madison, students have sued the school because the program isn't national accredited yet. This may be at the fault of the students because it is always important to look for a school with national accreditation.

Herzing told students they would get it before they graduated college which didn't happen. Other students were shocked to hear that students attended a school without accreditation. This is an important lesson for future nursing students, so always look out for accreditation before you start a Nursing program.
