It's very important to pick a nursing school that doesn't over charge you and then deliver poor education. It turns out at Herzing College in Madison, students have sued the school because the program isn't national accredited yet. This may be at the fault of the students because it is always important to look for a school with national accreditation.

Herzing told students they would get it before they graduated college which didn't happen. Other students were shocked to hear that students attended a school without accreditation. This is an important lesson for future nursing students, so always look out for accreditation before you start a Nursing program.

More and more investment is going into nursing which is great news for everybody involved. Architects have finished their plans to build a new building for nursing students and faculty near the DCH Regional Medical Center on University Boulevard. The current facility is in Russell Hall but was not well designed to be a nursing school.

The nursing school attendance has increased dramatically which is putting large stresses on the facilities, but the new building should easily alleviate that. This is great news to hear in a world where we are constantly hearing about the shortage of nurses and educators.

There are many nurses out there that go above and beyond their call of duty to help others and especially their nursing community. Recently on Saturday, the S.C. Nurses Foundation Scholarships awarded a Palmetto Gold Award to 23 students.

Some of the honorees talked about their experiences and thoughts on nursing. BJ Roof who is a nursing administrator at Palmetto Health Richland talked about how people give energy, so a long as BJ is around people, he can do great things.

Marie Bridges gave some advice to younger nurses and told them not to become a nurse if they aren't willing to put 100 percent in to their work, but also offered advice to keep balance in their lives because you need time for family.

The baby boomers are finally retiring and the medical system isn't prepared to handle them. This is a huge problem which can't be fix quickly. However, schools and hospitals are moving fast to make sure they do as much as they can.

The first step is investing in new clinics and other infrastructure. UNMC has invested 10 million dollars in a geriatric center which will care exclusively for the elderly. Also, the university of Iowa College of Nursing will have a new program focus on training new students on geriatrics. These are all important steps and it shows that people with authority are aware of the issue and are taking action.

Have you ever felt that other health professionals tried to impose themselves on you because they thought they were better? Well it turns out that the guys leading Nursing are one of the most capable out there. Despite having less funding and staff, they were able to be in the Top 10 in Scholarly Productivity.

This means they beat out tons of other schools and types of education. This is quite impressive for a field that doesn't usually get a significant amount of funding from universities and private organizations. This will hopefully get Nursing more in the frontier of education which will help solve the upcoming nursing shortage epidemic.

The current shortage of nurses hasn't been this large since 50 years ago. By 2020, the world will be short of 340000 registered nurses, but this is good news for nurses in the system as well as future nurses. You will expect to see higher salaries, bonuses, and even tuition repayment.

Baby boomers are now retiring in huge numbers which will add to the nursing shortage as well. But the problem isn't always that there aren't enough people wanting become nurses. Schools can't find enough educators so they have been rejecting students as well. In 2005, 125,000 students were turned away from Nursing school. This is an interesting challenge, but it is something that should be definitely be taken advantage of you're considering a nursing field.

There is a major problem in jails and it isn't overpopulation this time. Many inmates have a hard time coping with the life in jails. This leads to many problems such as mental illnesses. By law, they need to be taken care of, which brings many nurses to help inmates.

The problem with mental illnesses is that they are hard to pinpoint and they are very different from person to person. This forces the nurses to be creative in treating each patient. This is not an easy position for a nurse to be in, but it must be done to prevent each larger problems to happen.

Do you dislike the traditional nursing homes choices out there? Many are which are making many to look for something different. Most typical nrusing homes are assisted living facilities. The alternative is something called community-based services. This means you don't have to live wall to wall with others.

These community based services model can help people with very specialized diseases. The patients have the same or better care than traditional nursing homes, but they have a better quality of life as well. This frees family members from having to supervise patients 247/.

New England hospitals are looking to increase their awareness of cultural diversity at hospitals. One way they have found that works is bringing all the multicultural nurses together and asking them how they would increase the quality of care for the different backgrounds patients have. They say that this dialogue between nurses and administrators are helpers make sure the workforce is diverse as well as giving the appropriate type of care to people of different backgrounds.

It all started with an unassuming chat with diverse nurses and it ended up increasing workforce diversity at hospitals. This is a positive step for hospitals and it shows that a diverse workforce helps all aspects of a hospitals quality of care. The new programs that have spawned will ensure the future of the hospital as well in which everyone wins.

It turns out that 10 percent of adults are not getting enough sleep in the past month. This was stated by the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. The study showed that a large amount of people were sleeping less than 6 hours. The CDC also said that almost 70 million citizens are subject to sleep disorders and sleep loss, which adds a risk to obesity, depression, and addictive behavior such as smoking and drinking.

The reasons for why people are sleeping less are hard to pin point, but it is likely to due to the higher work loads imposed on families as well as higher family demands. There has also been an increase in television viewing and internet usage which may decrease sleep time as well.
